NEW DELHI: An unprecedented rush was seen in Delhi University on Thursday, the first day for online registration for admission to undergraduate courses, as many students turned up for forms and to clear their doubts regarding the process. However, the aspirants had to return disappointed as offline forms won’t be available till June 5.
Meanwhile, four sessions of Open Day were conducted and attended by over 2,400 aspirants and parents.
“The first session had to be conducted earlier than scheduled as candidates turned up early. We ended up conducting four sessions and the hall was packed to capacity in each session,” said deputy dean of students’ welfare, Gurpreet Singh Tuteja.
Most of the students who attended the Open Day were those seeking to apply either in sports or ECA category. However, they were informed by the colleges that registration process hadn’t started. St Stephen’s told them that registration is completely online for applying to the college.
Some students also showed concern about whether priority would be given to online or centralised OMR forms. They were considering waiting till June 5 when offline forms would be available. “I came for the Open Day as I wanted to know if the university would give priority to offline forms. My doubts have been cleared and I have decided to apply online,” said Bikas Biswas, a candidate.
Parents and students also inquired whether marks would be deducted in case a student changes his stream. Queries were also made about colleges that offered courses of their choice. The ones opting for psychology(h) faced this problem most due to fewer colleges offering this course. Parikh Kumar, who scored 93.25% aggregate in humanities, said, “I want to pursue psychology(h) but don’t know which colleges offer this programme for boys. The authorities haven’t given me a clear answer as yet.”
Students also complained about problems regarding generation of One Time Password while filling online forms. Their nervousness soared when they couldn’t get adequate answers from the authorities due to lack of time. Some even visited the specific college to get their doubts resolved.
